The NI RMC-8355 is a 1U rugged rack-mount controller for PXI- or PXI Express-based systems. It features an Intel Xeon E5620 quad-core processor with 2.4 GHz base clock frequency and 2.66 GHz single-core turbo frequency. This controller offers the power of Intel Xeon processors in a rugged enclosure with features for maximizing its uptime/availability.

Control of PXI or PXI Express Systems
The RMC-8355 features two PCI Express Gen 2 expansion slots (x16 and x8) that you can use with an NI MXI-Express remote controller to interface to either PXI or PXI Express systems. View the data sheet for details on the configuration of the PCI Express expansion slots and a list of supported MXI-Express remote controllers and peripheral devices.

High Performance
The standard configuration for the RMC-8355 features a single Intel Xeon E5620 quad-core processor and 3 GB RAM. You can upgrade it to work with dual CPUs that combined offer eight cores of computing performance and up to 96 GB RAM total.

These features along with the option to use two hard disk drives (HDDs) or solid-state drives (SSDs) in a redundant array of inexpensive disks (RAID) configuration enables the RMC-8355 to offer high performance for demanding test, measurement, and control applications.

Rugged Design
The RMC-8355 supports a 0 to 50 C operating temperature range when used in a single CPU configuration. For dual CPU configurations, the supported operational temperature range is 0 to 40 C.

The RMC-8355 is National Instruments first rack-mount controller that meets the PXI standards mechanical shock and vibration specifications. Also, to minimize the chances of the controllers rear cables loosening due to exposure to mechanical shock and vibration, a cable retention bracket is included with the RMC-8355. The extended operation temperature range and rugged enclosure make the RMC-8355 ideal for use in physically demanding environments.

High Availability
The RMC-8355 offers ECC RAM, hot-swappable fans, options for AC or DC dual redundant power supplies, and options for a redundant drive with RAID and a front-serviceable DVD drive. Because of these features, this controller provides the high uptime/availability required for mission-critical applications.
