The NI PXI-2720 is a 10-channel, 8-bit programmable resistor module capable of outputting resistance values up to 255 ohm in 1 ohm steps. Programmable resistors are test modules that replicate the behavior of resistance-based inputs and outputs such as potentiometers, resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), voltage dividers, and bridge elements. The NI 272x programmable resistor modules programmatically control a series of relays to vary the resistance across each channel of an I/O connector. This function is well suited for simulating environmental conditions in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation.

Connectivity
Each NI 272x module uses a 37-pin D-SUB connector and 2x2 Micro-Fit connector on the front panel. National Instruments offers cables and screw terminal blocks for the 37-pin D-SUB connector and a cable accessory to connect the 2x2 Micro-Fit connector to a digital multimeter (DMM).

Software
The NI-272x installer includes reference VIs and example programs for using the device as an RTD, programmable potentiometer, or resistive load. The software provides a simple user interface that accepts inputs in units of temperature or resistance, and configures the resistance across each channel.
