The NI PCI-8531 is a 1-port, high-speed CANopen PCI interface for developing CANopen applications in NI LabVIEW software on Windows and LabVIEW Real-Time OSs. CANopen is a higher-level communication protocol based on the controller area network (CAN) physical layer. It was designed for motion-oriented machine control networks, such as handling systems, but now it is used in a variety of products and applications, including medical equipment, off-road vehicles, maritime electronics, public transportation, and building automation.
The NI-Industrial Communications for CANopen driver includes a common API across PCI, PXI, and NI CompactRIO targets running either the Windows or LabVIEW Real-Time OS to make it easier to reuse code between targets and applications. In addition to CANopen communication, you can use the driver to transmit and receive raw CAN frames.
