NI-VISA Universal I/O Interface Software NI-VISA Licensing Info The Virtual Instrument Software Architecture (VISA) is a standard for configuring, programming, and troubleshooting instrumentation systems comprising GPIB, VXI, PXI, serial (RS232/RS485), Ethernet/LXI, and/or USB interfaces. New features include LXI autodiscovery with improved LXI device information in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), VISA Conflict Manager settings in MAX, added support for Mandriva Linux 2009, support for openSUSE 11.0, and the VISA multivendor plug-in architecture for the 64-bit edition of Windows Vista.

NI-VISA is the National Instruments implementation of the VISA I/O standard. It provides the programming interface between hardware and application development environments such as NI LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio for Microsoft Visual Studio.

NI-VISA development licenses are included with National Instruments products such as development environments and GPIB hardware. NI-VISA run-time deployment licenses are included on deployed systems that feature NI hardware, NI development environments, and applications written using NI development environments.
