Improve the E8663D RF PSG phase noise performance

The RF PSG equipped with Option UNX sets the industry standard for RF signal generator phase noise performance. Option UNX replaces the PSG standard internal frequency reference with a high performance internal frequency reference that improves the close-in phase stability to provide superior phase noise performance at offsets less than 10 kHz from carrier. With the integrated dividers enabled (included with Option UNX), the RF PSG uses a dividing technique to output carrier frequencies below 250 MHz. This results in improved phase noise at all offsets for these frequencies. The dividers can be disabled returning the RF PSG to a standard mode of creating low frequencies with a heterodyning technique. This mode provides wider deviation bandwidth for frequency and phase modulated signals.

Typical applications

Option UNX is recommended for signal generation applications that require spectrally pure signals and/or outstanding modulation accuracy. Typical applications include LO substitution, low-jitter clock stimulus, blocking/interference signals, stimulus/response measurements close to carrier, and high-order digital-modulation-format (e.g. 128 QAM, OFDM) signal generation.

This option cannot be added as a product upgrade only available at time of purchase.
