The WLAN measurement personality (Option 217) analyzes IEEE-standard wireless local area network (WLAN) signals within a single high-performance spectrum analyzer. The IEEE 802.11a/b/g standards-based presets makes compliance and standards conformance measurements simple and reduces test setup time. An intuitive user interface makes tests easy, and also allows for test flexibility and customization. Pass/fail indicators are given with each test, based on IEEE standards requirements, or custom tolerances and limits can be set for more rigorous testing.
The WLAN measurement personality analyzes the RF and modulation characteristics of 802.11b (DSSS/CCK/PBCC), 802.11a (OFDM), and 802.11g (OFDM and mixed-mode Extended Rate PHY) signals. Additionally, signals with slightly different modulation parameters, such as 802.11j and Turbo Mode, can also be analyzed. This is done simply by changing the necessary demodulation settings.
Measurements included in the WLAN measurement personality include:
- Transmit power
- Modulation accuracy (including EVM, center frequency leakage, and more)
- Transmit spectrum mask
- Power vs time (802.11b only)
- CCDF (complementary cumulative distribution function)
- Spectral flatness
Option 217 requires PSA Option 140 (40 MHz bandwidth digitizer) or Option 122 (80 MHz bandwidth digitizer) which are available on E4443A/45A/40A/46A/48A. This gives the PSA the analysis bandwidth necessary to analyze and demodulate existing WLAN signals, as well as the bandwidth to allow for emerging, wider-bandwidth standard and non-standard digitally modulated signals.
This option can be added as a product upgrade.
