Agilent Technologies, Inc. E4438C-UNJ Enhanced phase noise performance

Key Features & Specifications

  • High stability OCXO frequency reference with a high Q YIG oscillator
  • > 15 dB improvement over standard phase noise performance

Description

Improve the Standard Phase Noise Performance of the ESG

Option UNJ significantly improves the signal generator's close-in and mid-range phase noise performance, predominantly at offsets < 100 Hz and between 5 and 25 kHz from the carrier. The close-in phase noise contribution is minimized using an oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) in place of the standard temperature compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) to exploit the improved phase stability of the OCXO time base reference. Option UNJ includes the Option 1E5 OCXO high stability timebase, which results in improved frequency accuracy due to the slower aging rate of the reference oscillator. The mid-range phase noise contribution is addressed with a high Q yttrium iron garnet (YIG) oscillator in place of the standard voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) to improve the RF signal phase stability. The enhanced phase noise performance yields up to a 20 dB improvement over standard phase noise performance.

Typical Applications

Option UNJ is recommended for signal generation applications that require spectrally pure signals and/or superior modulation accuracy. Typical applications include LO substitution, low-jitter clock stimulus, blocking/interference signals, stimulus/response measurements close to the carrier, and high-order digital modulation formats (e.g. 64 QAM) and transmission schemes (e.g. OFDM).

This option cannot be added as a product upgrade only available at time of purchase.
