Datacom Technologies (Datacom Textron)

Datacom Textron is a rapidly growing company that has taken on the challenge of keeping pace with network testing technology. Best known for its LANcatr cable testers, Datacom continues to focus on research and development of diagnostic tools with a keen awareness of the changing technological environment and the most immediate needs of Datacom customers. Every employee is tuned to the ultimate goals of product excellence and customer satisfaction.

Datacom Textron was formed in 1981 as Datacom Northwest and first entered the data communications test market with the introduction of the Databox RS232 Interface Tester. The company name was changed to Datacom Technologies in 1988. In 1989, Datacom saw an emerging need for low-cost, handheld equipment for certifying installed network cable and began producing a family of network cable test products, beginning with the LANcat 1200 Ethernet LAN Cable and Activity Tester. This product was soon followed by the hugely successful LANcat series of cable testers. These products were noted for ease-of-use, field reliability, and low-cost.

The NETcat LAN Trouble Shooter, first introduced in 1994, was the first complete network cable tester designed expressly for network maintainers, and was first to break the US$1000 price barrier. The NETcat 2000 Series Ethernet Network Testers, combines cable testing with the ability to thoroughly test the entire physical layer including NICs and hub equipment, plus many other useful functions for diagnosing common network problems. Datacom's tradition of engineering innovation continues with the development of the LANcatr System 5 and System 6 Cable Testers. The LANcat Systems 5 and 6 are unique in their design in that they use plug-in Performance Modules as a means to achieve superior measurement accuracy and to provide future hardware upgradeability, full graphic displays at both ends of the testing system to facilitate the testing and troubleshooting of high-performance LAN cable, and an integrated talk set that allows cable testers to communicate over the line being tested. The LANcat Network Cable Testing System is just another example of Datacom's commitment to use innovative technology to create unique solutions for customer needs.

In August 1998, Datacom Technologies was acquired by Textron, Inc. (NYSE: TXT) - a $10.5 billion global and multi-industry corporation. The company was renamed Datacom Textron and is a division of Greenlee Textron, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Textron, Inc.
