Note: NI Real-Time Hypervisor for Windows software is available only with high performance multicore PXI controller systems. NI Real-Time Hypervisor for Windows systems come preloaded with all necessary OS and virtualization software.
NI Real-Time Hypervisor for Windows software uses virtualization technology to run NI LabVIEW Real-Time in parallel with either Windows 7 or Windows XP on multicore PXI controllers. By combining a deterministic real-time target and general-purpose host on one computer, the NI Real-Time Hypervisor helps advanced users build consolidated test, measurement, and control applications while reducing hardware cost and physical footprint. For detailed information on the performance trade-offs of hypervisor systems as well as supported I/O configurations, visit the Resources tab.
You can use LabVIEW software and the LabVIEW Real-Time Module to develop applications for both the Windows and LabVIEW Real-Time portions of a system with the NI Real-Time Hypervisor for Windows installed. It is designed to maintain the deterministic performance of real-time applications while providing access to Windows capabilities.
Using the built-in NI Real-Time Hypervisor Manager utility, you can partition I/O devices and RAM between OSs. Once you have done this, you can access I/O devices from your LabVIEW applications using their standard NI drivers. In addition, both virtual Ethernet and virtual serial connections are available for inter-OS communication.
For a complete list of hardware and software compatible with the NI Real-Time Hypervisor, visit the Resources tab. To ensure access to all NI Real-Time Hypervisor capabilities, you must use a supported version of the LabVIEW Real-Time Module to program applications for the real-time side of hypervisor systems.
